What is a Life Coach?
Sure, you’ve heard the phrase “life coach” floating around.
But, you’re still asking yourself … What is a life coach?!?
A life coach can be different things to different people … and play different roles in your life than they would in someone else’s.
Generally speaking, a life coach is someone who will help you to achieve the results you desire … someone who will help you live the best version of your life … and someone who will help you reach your full potential.
The coaching process isn’t just one sided, it’s a collaborative process and I'm your collaboration partner. It’s almost like being a tour guide. Through the coaching journey, I’ll provide accountability, encouragement, and support, while asking questions, making observations, and giving feedback to help you reach your goals.
I’ve been trained (though technically training isn’t required) on how to listen and communicate effectively, how to ask questions, and how to truly get to the heart and root of what you want.
A life coach helps people to make progress in their lives to get to greater fulfillment. We all deserve to be the best version of ourselves. We all deserve to live the best version of our lives.
But, to do this … you have to make changes … you have to make progress … you have to make improvements. No matter if it’s in your day to day life, your personal life, or even your professional life.
As a coach, I’ll help you dream big, stretch your horizons, and chart a course to get there.
But … you need accountability.
Perfect ... A life coach holds you accountable to yourself … by holding you to higher expectations and standards and reminding you what you’re doing it all for.
I’ll challenge you to see your true potential and to settle for nothing less.
When you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or just distracted by life’s uncertainties … yep, I’ll be that support system you can depend on.
Is Life Coaching like Therapy?
PLEASE don’t get life coaching confused with therapy.
Therapists are past and present focused. Their focus is assisting clients with healing trauma, overcoming abuse, and treating mental health and addictions.
In comparison, life coaches are present and future focused.
Does that mean that we never look at or talk about the past? No, but, we look at, talk about, and explore the past only to the extent needed to understand where you are presently … to look at the current life experiences and belief systems.
In coaching, the primary goal is to help you look at where you are and where you want to be … and then to help chart a path from where you are to where you want to be.
Oh … And just because you’re in therapy, doesn’t mean that you don’t need, or can’t benefit from, a life coach as well.
Do I Need a Life Coach?
Yep, you and everyone else.
Trust and believe … Everyone needs accountability, encouragement, and support.
Like I’ve said before … you know what you want in life … you aren’t sure how to get there … That's where I come in.
Life coaching clients are typically ambitious people who want to improve their output and see more growth ... and they want to do those things quickly and to the best of their ability.
All kinds of people use life coaches … business leaders, creatives, entrepreneurs, executives, homemakers, managers, professionals, small business owners and many more.
You’ve identified a gap between where you are and where you want to be, then you can turn to coaching to get the help in reaching your goals.
If you’re still asking yourself, do I need a life coach? It’s likely that coaching would benefit you.
Do any of these sound like you:
You're stuck in self-destructive habits?
Your inner self-talk is very negative?
You have a fear of failure that keeps you from reaching your goals?
You’re unorganized, disorganized, and just don’t know where to start on your goals?
You’ve recently undergone a stressful event or major life change?
Recognize yourself here? Then yep, coaching is for you.
Make the decision … reach out … schedule a free consult today … and let’s begin the journey to a happier, more confident, and goal fulfilling self.
Why do I Need a Life Coach?
Because goals take commitment. No matter if it’s a big goal or a small goal … you still have to commit to the goal to make it happen.
Maybe defining what a life coach does would be a little more helpful here …
Life coaching is distinct from giving advice, consulting, counseling, mentoring and therapy.
You work with a life coach to help with specific personal or professional goals, projects, and transitions.
A coach helps you grow by helping you to analyze your current situation, identifying your limiting beliefs, and identifying other potential challenges and obstacles you face. Then, I’ll work with you to devise a custom plan of action designed to help you achieve specific outcomes in your life, because life coaching isn’t a one size fits all approach.
How Does it Even Work?
What exactly can you expect?
Life coaching typically works in a specific, structured format, but, like I mentioned, I will ultimately work with you to create a custom action plan.
Assessing your current position helps you and your life coach measure your progress and identify current and potential obstacles.
It starts with working to define your vision. Having a goal you want to work toward will be the first step in the coaching process …. If you don’t know what it is, then our first step will be to develop that.
From there, we’ll work to set challenging, but achievable, goals. We’ll work to then decide which specific steps you'll take and when. We’ll work to prepare for potential obstacles and decide how to cope with them.
If your plan needs modification at any point, I'll help you with this as well, which will empower you to stay committed.
I’ll ensure that you aren’t settling for limited goals or being too negative as you assess your position … by helping you balance your long- and short-term goals against your core values.
What are the Benefits?
The short answer: EVERYTHING! The exact benefits depend on your specific goals.
But … It will change and improve your life. It will help you to finally set and achieve those goals.
It will help you to maximize your potential in any area of life … Some of the most common areas clients improve while working with a life coach include:
Creating personal and professional growth plans
Creating work/life balance
Identifying goals and defining a vision for success
Identifying core values and limiting beliefs
Improving relationships and communication skills
Navigating an important life or business transition
Planning, prioritizing, and organizing your life and productivity
I mean, life coaching helps you to maximize your potential in any area. By combining training and coaching, you'll experience increased productivity, which means more goals set, accomplished, and reached.
But, Can You Help Me?
Yep … I sure can, if only you let me!
I like the term life and accountability coach, as opposed to just life coach, because while they’re synonymous really in the work that’s likely being done … I’m a big fan of accountability and holding people accountable.
So, I want you to know that in working with me, I'm not just here to help you set goals in life, but to hold you accountable to the steps needed to reach those goals.
I'm here to help empower you to live a better life!
The relationship between you, as the client, and me, as the life and accountability coach, is more like a creative partnership than a one-way street.
From our first meeting, and throughout the coaching experience, we’ll:
Identify, clarify, and create a vision for what you want
Encourage self-discovery and personal growth
Modify your goals and timelines, as needed
Create strategies and a plan of action that best fits with your goals, personality, and the vision for your life
Foster accountability to increase your productivity and actually reach the goals you’ve set
There you have it … are you ready to have a life and accountability coach in your corner?
If so, let’s get to work … it’s time to change your perspective, change your mindset, change your life.
